Clarify the question a skin analysis is intended to answer: pigment distribution, facial contours or change over time? Ask what the system measures and what it cannot assess. Discuss how lighting, facial expression and capture conditions may affect comparisons. Ask the clinician to explain the meaning of an observed finding; a device output alone does not establish a diagnosis or the need for a procedure. Find out where photographs are stored, who can access them and how any other use is handled. Ask which examination findings support a proposed procedure and whether observation without treatment is an option.
Questions before your visit
When reviewing the report, ask how each measurement relates to your concern. Will baseline and follow-up photographs use the same lighting and facial position? How will differences in makeup, product use or time of capture be recorded? Who will interpret the result, and how will it be combined with an in-person examination? Ask for the comparison date, method and clear explanations in your copy of the report. Discuss access to photographs, retention and any separate proposed promotional use. Finish by clarifying which findings will be monitored and which need further assessment.
